The Appeal
The 1600-2 is the car that launched BMW's legendary '02 series, establishing BMW's reputation for driver-focused compact saloons. Combining a spirited four-cylinder engine with nimble handling and a practical two-door body, it created a formula that would define the brand for decades to come.
This 1968 example has passed through only three registered owners and has been garaged in dry conditions since 2010. In 2022, it underwent a comprehensive restoration covering the bodywork, paint and interior, and the engine benefits from a Redline (USA) supercharger kit. Accompanying the car is a comprehensive documentation file including manufacturer service records and invoices covering much of its life. With a valid MOT until November 2027, this 1600-2 awaits its next owner.

✓ We also check whether vehicles are registered as written off as a result of a total loss claim at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic and we provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. The presence or absence of a label does not, however, guarantee the vehicle's status and it is always worthwhile to carry out a full vehicle history check before making an offer on it.
