This lot is part of The Blaauwbank Collection, an eclectic mix of vehicles spanning nearly a century of motoring. The collection showcases everything from practical classics to high-end collector cars, all carefully curated and stored in purpose-built, climate-controlled storage hangars in Central South Africa's arid climate.
For overseas buyers, this is an opportunity to acquire classic cars that have never been exposed to salted roads and the damp European climate.
Shipping Logistics:
A fixed-rate containerised shipping quote of £1,189.00 (Cape Town to London Gateway Port) has been secured by the seller via export agent VA Auto Traders (excludes SA transport and UK port fees).
Rare right-hand drive Safari estate with the desirable manual transmission
Single family ownership for over 50 years
Preserved by a lifetime spent in a dry climate
Described by the vendor as untouched and in original condition
The Appeal
The introduction of an estate ("Safari") body to the excellent DS/ID platform turned a brilliant saloon into practical family transport. Sharing its hydropneumatic suspension and aerodynamic styling, but adding a capacious load area and that distinctive rear window arrangement, the Safari was a truly remarkable car. It is rare in any guise; a right-hand drive, manual example is vanishingly so.
This 1968 car was sold new in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) and spent over 50 years in the town of Fort Victoria with a single family. That dry African climate has been kind to it; the vendor reports it to be rot-free and dry throughout. It retains what the vendor describes as its original interior, with plush grey-and-black velour seats, complemented by a mid-blue exterior with a dove grey roof and accents.
Described by the vendor as "correct, complete, and unmolested", this right-hand drive Safari has a lot to offer and will particularly appeal to UK buyers. IMG_0743 Noel Grove.jpeg2.93 MB
