When the Jaguar XJ-S was launched in 1975, it created quite the impression. Its width and modern styling that incorporated the highly distinctive rear ‘buttresses’ took time to be accepted by some, though its performance, handling prowess and GT credentials were never in doubt. Solely powered by V12 engines for the first eight years of production, until 1983 it was offered with the new AJ6 straight-six engine that delivered impressive performance with vastly superior fuel economy.
 
This 1985 coupé features that 3.6-litre engine, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. The seller states that they bought the car 13 months ago, during which time the car has only been driven in dry conditions and stored in a garage. The car comes with a comprehensive history file from 1985 to the present day, including the original sales letter. It has covered just over 4,000 miles since May 2018.
 
The car’s exterior is finished in metallic ‘Antelope’ paint, with no visible blemishes, and twin yellow pinstripes that run the length of the body. It is fitted with the later ‘lattice’-style alloy wheels, and its chrome-work is bright. Inside, the Leather interior in ‘Buckskin’ colour is extremely well-presented, with the original carpet covered to protect it. The seller notes that some veneer sections have been replaced.
 
The seller states that the car “drives like new”. It is sure to bring grand touring pleasure to its new owner.
