The Appeal
Other bikes channelled World Superbike success into road-going brilliance, but the 916 added extra sparkle, making the showroom bikes much more than Foggie replicas. For starters, there’s that Desmo ‘L-Twin’ torque traction, the impeccable front-end confidence and handling, and, of course, the sweet packaging, including that definitive underseat exhaust.
The Biposto arrived in 1994 for the 1995 model year, with a pillion seat cleverly body-coloured to mimic the earlier monoposto Strada. This very low-mileage example is likely one of the first built at Ducati’s rejuvenated Bologna plant and has covered less than 16,000 miles in the intervening 31 years. The current keeper, only its third, bought it in 1999 and says it has been carefully dry-stored when not in use. It will need a fresh MOT before it hits the road again, but with its distinctive Italia racing livery and good condition, it will surely attract attention when it does.
