Seen at the time as a charismatic newcomer in a market segment packed with highly capable machinery, the Lexus IS200 saloon quickly built a loyal following straight from its launch in 1998. With potent engines, rear-wheel drive, generous equipment levels and class-leading build quality, it’s easy to understand why the IS became an instant success story.
In 2002, Lexus introduced the ‘IS300’, bringing a number of worthwhile upgrades. Externally, the most notable changes included a lower suspension setup and 17-inch alloy wheels, while power increased from 158bhp to an impressive 220bhp.
Limited Edition (LE) variants were made available for a short time only on both the IS200 and IS300. Building on the already generous specification of the SE model, the LE added a host of desirable upgrades including distinctive 11-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels and HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps. Inside, the cabin benefited from full sports leather upholstery, along with an additional front armrest for the driver’s seat, sunroof and aluminium pedals.
The comprehensive specification also includes front, side and curtain shield airbags, climate control, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, an eight-speaker sound system with in-dash six-disc CD autochanger, electric windows and sunroof, automatic anti-glare rear-view mirrors and cruise control on automatic models.
With more than £1,200 worth of additional standard equipment, the LE represented exceptional value when new, costing just £460 more than the equivalent SE model.

‘Astral’ Black paintwork presents very well with a deep, even shine. The odd age-related marks throughout - a few scuffs to the bumpers, stone chips on the front bonnet and x2 small bird residue spots to note
