It took Ford 21 years to get around to replacing the incredible Model T, but when it did the new Model A was a huge leap forward – more conventional and easier to drive, larger and more elegant than ever before.
This one is one of the prettiest of the lot – a four-door open tourer. It was sold originally via a Ford agent in South Africa, so is a genuine right-hand-drive car. It’s in lovely order ready to enjoy and the vendor, who specialises in bringing cars in from South Africa, is happy to help its next owner register it should the car stay in the UK – it’s a very simple process.
The Model A was restored some years ago but to an exceptional standard, and the black leather seats have been smartly retrimmed and look fantastic.
It’s fairly rudimentary inside, with basic rubber floors and a central instrument pack, which has a gorgeous, delicate art-deco finish to it. What there is, though, is in lovely condition throughout. AlNLaTs7vcuFvobDTg3INBatrP3jB87x0G346YId.jpeg1.21 MB
THE EXTERIOR
Refinished in blue and black
Replacement hood colour-matched to wheels
Beautiful condition
Lots of charming original features
The paintwork on the Model A is lovely, with a deep and lustrous shine and no major flaws. There are a couple of small marks on the rear deck and a few tiny stone chips, but nothing to write home about. The underside looks to be in great condition, too.
The canvas roof was replaced during the car’s restoration and is in good condition, while it folds away neatly and easily with no need to dismantle the hood frame.
It sits on charming cream-painted wire wheels and all of the chrome and trim is in very presentable condition.
Under the side-hinged bonnet, the Model A has a sturdy four-cylinder side-valve engine which starts easily and settles to a steady idle once you’ve mastered the advance, retard and floor start operation, though the central throttle pedal takes some getting used to!
It will be serviced ahead of sale for the new owner but runs well, engages all gears as it should and is described by the vendor as in good working order with no known issues.
Ideal for weddings, events or venue hire, this is a truly charming example of one of the world’s most important cars. It’s a lovely restored example with smart coachwork and a lovely interior, very well-presented and ready to show and enjoy.
