1932 Chevrolet Confederate Special Sedan

Highlights

  • Mostly original condition
  • Drives without fault
  • Very rare and desirable specification
  • Excellent show piece or special occasion vehicle

The Appeal

Introduced in 1932, the Confederate was Chevrolet’s successor to the Series AE Independence and would be the only vehicle produced by Chevrolet that year.

Despite production numbers dwindling ever so slightly throughout The Great Depression, the Confederate was rather well received and helped Chevrolet retain their podium as the top automotive manufacturer in the U.S.
The Confederate was also rather prominent in popular culture and stands as a reminder of the era of 30’s outlaws, such as Bonnie & Clyde. Today, these classics are seldom seen outside of the United States, with many surviving examples tucked away in private collections.

This example was imported in 2008 and presents a very rare opportunity to obtain a unique historical vehicle, perfect for shows or functions.

The History and Paperwork

  • American import
  • Just 1 UK owner
  • Mostly original
  • Original instruction booklet
  • V5C document present
This Chevrolet Confederate Sedan was imported to the UK in 2008, having spent its early life in the United States.

Although not a great deal is known about the vehicle’s past, it is safe to say the vehicle is packed with character and may hold a very rich history.
Throughout its time in the UK, the vehicle has been treasured as part of a collection, venturing out on dry days for classic car shows. The vehicle has also been serviced regularly by the current keeper, who is now reluctantly letting this quirky Chevrolet go to spend time with other vehicles from their collection.

Included with the vehicle are the V5C document and the original instruction booklet.

The Interior

  • Mostly original condition
  • Re-trimmed seats
  • Characterful with tasteful patina
As the photos reflect, the interior of this Chevrolet Confederate is absolutely packed with charm and has been preserved rather well for its age.

With the exception of the seats which have been retrimmed by the current keeper, the interior is believed to still show its original finish. With that in mind, there are of course signs of wear & tear to be expected.
The headlining & door cards do show discolouration and various marks from usage over the years but are in fair condition considering that the vehicle isn’t too far away from being a century old.

The dashboard and metal components do of course follow suit, showing a charming amount of patina and ageing. Although the interior could of course be restored, it would seemingly be a real shame to lose all of the character and history packed into the cabin.
As the only known refurbished item in the interior, the seats present themselves near faultlessly, with only minor signs of wear. Reflecting on the interior, retrimming the seats was seemingly a good decision, as it allows passengers to enjoy the cabin in comfort.

Should the vehicle be used for functions or hire in the future, the clean seats will surely serve a white wedding dress well.
Although the vehicle is hardly packed with electric features, all controls and instruments within the interior are indeed believed to be in full working order.

The Exterior

  • Two-tone paintwork
  • Previously resprayed
  • Wire spoked wheels & whitewall tyres
  • Classic 30’s styling
  • Orange indicator lenses
This Chevrolet sports a gorgeous 2-tone paint job, no doubt the result of a previous respray.

Although the vehicle shows off new paintwork, it is believed by the current keeper that the vehicle hasn’t required a major restoration in the past, and reportedly shows no prior signs of welding.
The two-tone paint presents itself very well, with a welcome amount of tasteful patina. As the images reflect, there is also more noticeable marking towards the back of the vehicle, which is believed to have occurred during transit from the US. There is also a patch of bubbling and surface corrosion near the lower door/sill seam as shown in one of the included images.
All trim pieces, badging, and brightwork seemingly also show off a mostly original finish, subsequently now showing the expected signs of patina and pitting as a result. Fortunately, these signs of age only seem to add to the overall charm of the vehicle.
Accompanying the two-tone paintwork, are a set of period correct wire-spoke wheels, with whitewall tyres to suit.

Although the fitted wheels show different coloured finishes, they are in fact in a rather impressive condition, with only minor marks to the lips & spokes and a dash of the expected corrosion.

The Mechanics

  • Runs & drives
  • No known issues to report
  • Straight-six engine
  • 3-speed transmission
  • 3 brush dynamo
Buyers will be pleased to know that this classic Chevrolet fires up and performs without a single known fault.

Although hardly advanced by modern standards, this particular model is regarded as quite highly specced and offers plenty of upgrades over the previous Series AE model.
The vehicle was last used in June and has received regular oil changes throughout its time with the current owner.

With no known issues to report and nothing required to be enjoyed, this Chevrolet is now ready to hit the roads.

Summary

This 1932 Chevrolet Confederate Special Sedan is a fantastic reminder of one of the most significant automobiles produced throughout The Great Depression.

This particular example is believed to be in mostly original condition and is in excellent running order.
Whether you’re looking for your next showpiece, function vehicle or simply fancy pretending you’re on the run from Johnny Law, this is a rare opportunity not to miss.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
