The Appeal
The Mathis TY 5HP is one of the more obscure and fascinating chapters in French automotive history. Produced in Strasbourg from 1931 to the end of 1934, the TY was Mathis's answer to the demand for affordable, economical motoring, built on the earlier PY chassis and powered by a diminutive 905cc lateral four-cylinder engine producing 15hp. Survivors are scarce, making any example a noteworthy find for collectors of pre-war French machinery.
This 1933 Cabriolet presents well throughout for its age. The bodywork retains a good shine, and the cabin looks clean and comfortable, with the seats showing gentle signs of age that lend the interior an authentic period character. For those drawn to rare and characterful pre-war motoring, this Mathis TY 5HP Cabriolet represents a genuinely uncommon opportunity.
