The Appeal
The Rapier was well named, thanks to its all-new 1.1-litre twin-overhead-camshaft 50 bhp engine designed by Thomas Ashcroft. Just 470 were built before Lagonda went bust and this car is said to be the sixth from last assembled.
It features the very rare four-seat Ranalah body designed by John Dalrymple and Charles Livesey, which is confirmed by chassis records. Figures vary, but it is suggested that just 22 tourers like this car were built. We’re told that the body has never been off the chassis.
The car is in very good order, finished in appropriate British Racing Green with a burgundy leather cabin, the latter a result of a late 2024 retrim. Other investments include £1,200 spent in late 2024 on work to the brakes, timing, hubs, and HT leads, among other areas. This is a very pretty and extremely rare car from a very historic name.
The vendor says:
“Once you have mastered the pre-selector gearbox and the pedals (throttle in the middle), it's great fun. Ideal for rallies, touring or just going to the pub on a sunny Sunday!”
