Highlights

  • Presents in marvellous condition
  • Rare model accompanied by extensive history file
  • Excellent Mann Egerton coachbuilt body

The Appeal

Hailing from the golden era of coachbuilding, the Rolls Royce 25/30 saw some truly remarkable body designs, and one of the finest came from Norwich based outfit Mann Egerton.

Sweeping lines, lashings of chrome trim, and some truly advanced automotive design features, the Mann Egerton saloon is a prime example of just how amazing the coachbuilding industry could be.

Presenting in excellent condition both mechanically and aesthetically, DYU 26 a 1937 model affectionately known as GUN28, courtesy of the code on its chassis plate, provides a wonderful opportunity to acquire a truly special car.

Rare, lavish and a piece of art in its own right the 25/30 will make a welcome addition to one’s collection or will work equally well as a way into the world of coachbuilt automobiles.

The History and Paperwork

  • Accompanied by quality copy of the original sales invoice and spec sheet
  • Extensive collection of manuals and owners literature
  • Rolls Royce 20-25 handbook
  • Correct V5 registration document present with the car
  • Both MOT and tax exempt due to historic status

The Interior

  • Excellent coachbuilt quality
  • Brilliant leather appointments
  • Well equipped including rear passenger divider

There is just something incredible about a coachbuilt interior.

Something is to be said for the impeccable build quality and the sheer opulence that one finds in the cabin of something coachbuilt. The Mann Egerton saloon, naturally, is no exception to this notion.

Deep leather seats take precedence in both the front and rear of the cabin, both of remarkable quality, utilising high quality leather and with good cushioning and stitching, these really are the last word in comfort.

At the sides we find four excellent door panels, using yet more leather which has been well detailed off with wood finish door cappings and smart chrome embellishments. All of which are in good standing.

Focusing on the front end, we find yet more wood in the form of the excellent dash panel. A true testament to quality British craftsmanship, the panel is in great shape and just presents with minor wear and patina. The wonderful collection of gauges and switchgear nestled within the panel are of a similarly high quality.

The simply excellent broad steering wheel found on the Rolls is unquestionably a true statement piece, presents wonderfully and houses a smart collection of levers and switchgear needed to start the car.

The rear passenger section of the 25/30 is where things are truly taken to the next level.

Much like the Rolls Royces of modern day, incredible effort has been taken to provide the utmost level of comfort and refinement for the rear seat passengers, and as such we find a marvellous selection of bespoke amenities and features which, especially considering the age of the car, are outstanding.

Alongside two rear pull out trays we find characteristic Rolls Royce vanity mirrors, ash trays, chrome trim, and most notably, a wind up divider to separate the occupants if one wishes to do so. The divider is still in good functioning form and can still be utilised in both the up or down positions.

The boot of a car is seldom a place of much interest, but that is simply not the case here. Opening the rear tailgate we find a multi sectioned storage area with the unquestionable highlight being the wonderful pull down tool kit panels, still containing the large majority of its tools.

The Exterior

  • Wonderful coachbuilt body lines
  • Excellent chrome trim
  • Exudes elegance

The phrase that comes instantly to mind when examining the 25/30’s exterior is of course, eye catching, followed by something along the lines of opulent or grand. Cars of this nature can be described in no other way.

A long sweeping body coated in two tone paintwork perfectly detailed off with excellent chrome trim. Mann Egerton clearly wasn't content with anything other than perfection.

The car presents in wonderful near impeccable condition from an exterior perspective, having borne the test of time wonderfully. The two tone cream and black paint is of a great standard and would perhaps suit usage as a wedding car.

It should be noted that in some areas there is some blemishing to the paint which would suggest something has been scraped up against the body, however the paint is of an excellent standard when considering the age of the vehicle.

The front end of the 25/30 is an absolute masterclass in automotive design and detailing. Here we find beautifully crafted headlights, a central spotlight, two large horns and the iconic front grille and spirit of ecstasy bonnet ornament all finished in exquisite near perfect chrome.

Here one is also presented with an openable windscreen which functions well and with ease. A retractable roof panel is also fitted to the car.

At ground level sit four excellent Rolls Royce wheels, still boasting their aerodynamic coverings, a fifth spare wheel sits mounted on the right hand front wing panel.

The Mechanics

  • Excellent 4257cc Rolls Royce engine
  • In good overall mechanical order
  • Keyless start

Opening the hinged front bonnet panels one is presented with a great clean example of Rolls Royce’s 4257cc inline six engine.

In great original condition this has been well maintained to an incredibly high standard as indicated by the accompanying service history. As a result the Rolls fires into life almost immediately once the correct starting sequence has been performed.

A good quality, and above all comfortable ride and drive is reported to be provided by the car.

Summary

Elegant, suave and unquestionably cool, the 25/30 Mann Egerton saloon is a real marvel of British engineering, craftsmanship and coachbuilding.

With beautiful exterior styling, solid driveline and a truly epic interior, this isn't one to miss, DYU 26 would be a brilliant addition to anyone's collection and is an ideal car for someone looking to purchase a quality slice of coachbuilt automotive history, that has been well maintained and is accompanied by a thorough and comprehensive history file.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
