The Appeal
The first post-war MG Sports car looked very much like a pre-war design - as there simply hadn't been the time nor resources to design a new body. That appealed, it turned out, to the American market in a big way, and the TC ended up introducing the idea of the nimble, fun and affordable British Sports Car to the rest of the world - setting up a good three decades of success enjoyed by almost every marque in the UK.
These cars ended up enjoying a lot of success on the sports and rally circuit, and it's not unusual to find them enjoying an impressive amount of provenance. Take this 1948 car - owned by Dan Dickinson, the founding President of the Long Beach MG Club, and his wife Dottie. Over this tenure, it won the gruelling 2,000+ mile Elkhart Lake Rally in 1952 and the prestigious Prince Rainier III Trophy.
After spending most of its life in California, this TC was repatriated to the UK in 2014 and underwent a comprehensive rebuild to return it to its original Sequoia Cream with green upholstery scheme, while maintaining originality where possible. It's still in superb order today - ready and waiting for its lucky new owner.
