The Appeal

Established by Ercole Zuccoli during the 1960’s, Autotecnica del Lario (ATL) was a boutique carrozzeria based in the Lombardy region of northern Italy.

During their near-twenty years of operation and in accordance with the greatest Italian coachbuilding traditions,  ATL produced a very limited number of astonishingly beautiful bespoke automobiles, with each example being tailored to its owner’s own individual requirements.

Forming the basis of this particularly beautiful ATL Barchetta is a 1951 Aurelia B10 Berlina, a highly regarded automobile from Lancia in its own right, the Aurelia was renowned for both its technical prowess and considerable racing pedigree. Developed under the oversight of the legendary Vitterio Jano, the Aurelia showcased to the world a number of engineering innovations, not least its fabulous V6 engine, a production first.

Working from this exceptional basis during the early 1980s, ATL then went on to craft the stunning Barchetta body we see today, hand forming aluminium panels over a lightweight tubular frame which itself sits atop the original Aurelia chassis.

Clearly referencing the gorgeous open top racers of the early 1950s, not least Scuderia Lancia’s own highly successful D23 racer, the ATL Barchetta is quite simply a unique and alluring motorcar from a highly coveted carrozzeria.

Undergoing a photographically documented restoration between 2014 and 2017 whilst under current ownership, this ATL Barchetta now presents in a wonderful aesthetic and mechanical condition. Behind the wheel, we are told this Barchetta makes for an engaging driving experience and with only around 620kg to propel, it’s 2.2-litre V6 engine is capable of making brisk progress. Additionally, should the new owner desire to race the car, the ATL Barchetta comes with an FIA historic technical passport allowing participation in numerous historic events.

With very strong values being realised in recent years for similar ATL-built motorcars, this Barchetta surely now represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a truly unique and highly desirable coach-built motorcar.

  • Supplied with copy of original Automobile Club D’Italia registration document

The Interior

  • Beautiful period racing interior clearly finished to a high standard
  • Racing bucket seats for the driver and their passenger
  • Clear well-presented driving instruments conveying only the essential information

With a beautiful purity of purpose, the simple uncluttered interior cabin of this little Barchetta speaks to its racing intent. With two racing bucket seats trimmed in lovely contrasting red leather, gorgeous upright wood-rimmed steering wheel and a bank of clear gauges, the Barchetta has a wonderfully authentic period racing feel.

On opening its beautifully formed doors it’s immediately clear that every possible concession to lightness has been made. With only a single metal chain for door furniture and its tubular frame structure proudly on show, there is nothing superfluous or extraneous to be found inside this sporting Lancia.

The Exterior

  • Stunning hand-formed lightweight aluminium body over a tubular frame structure in a pure and uncluttered 1950’s race car style
  • Benefiting from a no-expense-spared restoration whilst under current ownership and now presenting in a tremendous condition

With its compact proportions and breathtakingly beautiful lines, this Lancia Aurelia ATL Barchetta  is a masterclass in how beautiful form can follow function.

Looking through the attached photographs it’s clear that no stone was left unturned during this Lancia’s recent nut and bolt restoration. Stripped back to its chassis, every element of  the Barchetta was meticulously restored and today the car stands as a testament to the skill and care of this work.

The Mechanics

  • Fitted with Lancia’s famed all-alloy V6 engine, here in later 2.2-litre guise
  • 4-speed manual transmission
  • In superb running condition following recent extensive restoration

On speaking with the owner he reports this little Lancia is rude health and, although stated to be putting out around 90 BHP, he tells us it certainly feels like a lot more whilst underway!

Blessed with fine mechanical componentry from the Aurelia, the ATL is reported to handle well whilst on the road and with a weight of only approximately 620 kg, we have every reason to believe this to be the case.

Summary

Rare and highly desirable with an FIA historic passport offering the opportunity for  historic racing, this Lancia Aurelia ATL Barchetta now offers its next custodian the opportunity to own, experience and potentially race, a very exciting piece of motoring history.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
