***Vendor supplied images***

Highlights

  • Built in 2016, using a Simca 8 1200 as a base
  • Open-top aluminium body
  • Nicely-presented period-style interior

The Appeal

Explaining this particular car requires two chunks of history - as it’s a fusion of two somewhat disparate models. Introduced in 1937, the Simca 8 was a small family car practically perfect for the mid-century European market, and took hold in style during the 2nd World War. By 1948, it was the company’s biggest seller.

It’s this comfortable family coupe that was the basis for this stylish project - which takes its engine from the Gordini Division of Renault Sport. Using a fibreglass body - evoking the Simca-Gordini racers that once gained immense success in the likes of Formula One.

Boasting a Simca-Gordini 8 4-Cylinder engine with twin carbs, this lightweight aluminium Sportscar is perfect for hill climbs, classic events and more - and is loaded with period details.

The History and Paperwork

  • First built as Simca 8 1200 in 1951
  • In 2015 the car was rebuilt into its current form by a workshop in Gallarate
  • Registered in Italy in 2018
  • Revisione expired in 2022
  • We’re sadly not aware of any service history with the car
  • Car comes with a photocopy of the original Certificat D’immatriculation
  • Complete with Carta D’Circalazione

The Interior

  • Sporty, light interior themed after mid-century racing
  • Bare aluminium dashboard with Jaeger gauges
  • No odometer fitted
  • Wood-trimmed steering wheel
  • Tan vinyl bucket seats and lining
  • Tactile switches throughout
  • Light signs of wear, mostly to the floors and dash

Inspired by period racing spec, this car’s interior forgoes luxurious lineage and, in its place, makes use of lightweight, minimal instrumentation and upholstery. It’s bare bones - no odometer necessary for a hill climb, after all - and simplistic, but completely accurate to the car’s replicated guise.

With no rips or tears, and only the gentlest signs of wear to the metalwork, we’ve not been informed of any faults to the Jaeger gauges or tactile switches, and it looks ready to go at any event of your choice.

The Exterior

  • Aluminium bodywork in a stylish period-racing guise
  • Distinctive, sweeping curves with outsized grille
  • Highly finished with bright red paintwork
  • Perspex windscreen
  • Single left-hand mirror
  • Identifying text applied to the car’s side panels
  • Very light signs of wear
  • Wire spoke wheels
  • Nearly-new-looking Toyo tyres
  • Exceptionally presented underside

Finished in a rich red paintwork, this beautiful period-style racer is a sweeping, stylish visage of mid-century event driving. With a lightweight aluminium body, based upon a Simca 8, it really looks the part. An outsized grille, wire-spoke wheels and flowing curves create a retro-styled, aggressive speeder that’s perfect for the track.

With no dents or dings, a clean underside and well-presented paintwork, there’s no doubt that this car is a head-turner.

The Mechanics

  • Powered by a Simca-Gordini 8 I4 engine with twin carbs
  • Manual transmission
  • Revisione expired in 2022
  • However, the car is reportedly working well
  • No reported leaks, knocks, bangs or smoke

Popping open the engine bay of this car reveals the Simca-Gordini 8, nicely presented and professionally rebuilt during the car’s change of guise in 2015. Everything here is clean, nicely kept, and really looks the part.

We’ve been informed of no technical issues, and from what we understand, the car is ready and waiting to be driven away. It’s a beguiling, nippy technical setup for such a lightweight car. We’ve no doubt it’ll be a seductive prospect for even the most jaded enthusiast.

Summary

Sweeping, stylish and finished in an attractive colour scheme, this is a really impressive evocation. With its lightweight bodywork, characterful grille and impressive finish, this is a highly unusual car - and we’re content it’s something very, very special.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
