The Appeal
Oh, to live in an Italian city in the immediate pre and post war years when Fiat’s charismatic ‘little mouse’ was zipping between panatteria, caffe and pasticceria. It would have been an evocative scene because these stylish city cars enliven wherever they are.
Here is your chance to discover that. This 1952 500C Topolino is one of the last to feature the trafficator-style indicators and is in fine shape. The vendor inherited it in 2010 from his uncle, who had owned it snce 1963, meaning it has been in the same family since it was 11 years old.
The blue paintwork is in good general order, but it is the retrimmed interior, featuring correct factory-style cloth, that particularly draws the eye. That work is part of a long list of improvements by the vendor since he acquired it, including rewiring, new soft top, replacement tyres, new bumpers (not fitted) and a replacement exhaust.
Said to run and drive very well, this evocative 500C has a fascinating history and looks like a good example of these popular cars.
The vendor says:
“Years ago, I inherited this convertible. It was very beautiful and in good condition; it just needed a thorough interior restoration due to wear and tear and its age. It was 800 km away from where I live, but the appeal it held for me made the inconvenience of the long journey home well worth it. With a great deal of patience and effort, I gradually refurbished the entire interior.”
