The Appeal
As with the E-Type, as with the original XK120 OTS. Jaguar conceived these cars as design showcases, in the case of the XK, to demonstrate its new straight-six engine. But the receptions were so rapturous that both went into series production. Looking at this beautiful British Racing Green 1952 OTS, it is easy to see why. As the original iteration of the XK120, and the earliest of the subsequent lineage, it has a purity and simplicity of line that remains beguiling nearly 80 years since that show car was unveiled in London.
This 1952 car is one of only 6,438 LHD OTS XK120s built. The British Racing Green and tan leather interior is a fitting combination and remains in good order, with only light patina to note. They reflect the character of this car - like many XK120s, it is a car that has been used and enjoyed, as the rally fittings in the cabin confirm.
We are told that the mechanicals, including the engine and ancillaries, have been overhauled. This includes the brakes, lighting and wiring. Useful upgrades to the cooling and ignition systems, such as an aluminium radiator, electric radiator fan, alternator and 123 electronic ignition, all improve the car’s reliability for endurance events and touring.
A useful 2025 independent inspection report and a recent technical inspection, valid to September 2025, support the claims above and the impression created by the photos. This is a very tidy example of the perennially popular OTS, and it looks perfect for continental touring events.
