The Appeal
The MG TD Mark II Competition sat at the top of the TD range, with only 1,710 examples produced worldwide between 1950 and 1953. Featuring an upgraded XPAG engine with higher compression, larger valves, twin fuel pumps, and improved Andrex suspension, the Mark II was purpose-built for competition use and offered significantly more performance than the standard TD. Just 53 Mark II Competition cars were supplied to the UK home market, making this a scarce example for MG enthusiasts.
Our car is believed to have been cherished by one owner for over 50 years. It retains many of its rare Mark II features, including the correct badges, H4 carburettors with pancake-style air intake filters (with the original intake also included), twin fuel pumps, Andrex suspension, bonnet bulge, and the Mark II grab handle. Many period-correct parts have been fitted, including genuine Lucas components rather than aftermarket alternatives, and it benefits from a rare Smiths-type heater unit.
Finished in the iconic red-on-red colour scheme, this TD Mark II Competition presents as a well-preserved example rather than a freshly restored car, showing relatively little patina for its age. It comes complete with a soft-top, side screens, matching Maxxis tyres, and a box of spare parts. _88A6818.jpg2.87 MB
