The Appeal

What a beautiful car this Zephyr Six is, with its exterior chrome trim, sun visor, and spotlights you know that this classic was a luxury car back in the day. This Aire of luxury carries on inside, with well-trimmed seats and a body coloured dash.

This example has just been resurrected after a lengthy time in storage and is now ready to go to you, the next owner. You will have hours of fun fettling with the running gear but more importantly at the helm of this wonderful classic.

The History and Paperwork

  • Produced in 1954 this Zephyr is part of the first, or EOTTA, generation
  • It would go on to live a happy life servings its owners well
  • It is possible that throughout its more recent history that it has had an interior overhaul as the brown material is in great condition still
  • This car lives its life between its eight owners before it is acquired by the current owner in 2014
  • It has then been tucked away quietly in a barn until very recently
  • Within the paperwork sleeve, there are quite a few key pieces of paperwork
  • The most important is the modern V5, quickly followed by some old MOT certificates
  • The beautifully designed service book is also present with some services vouchers marked
  • There is a few other pieces of paperwork present as well
  • The baton now falls to you, this is your chance to add to this car's amazing history
  • With a little bit of work needed it will be a perfect addition to your collection

The Interior

  • Lovely brown seats
  • Colour matching interior features
  • Ready to go
The interior of this Zephyr is a wonderful place to be, filled with wonderous vintage fittings and finishes. With wide bench seats and a colour matching carpet, this interior is ready for you to jump on in and take it on some adventures around this country, or Europe wide.

Looking at the front and rear bench seats we can all see that they are presented very well with the material looking amazing when contrasted against the colour coded green interior panels. It is thought that at some point in the past this material has been renewed and updated, but there are no invoices to back this up.

The door cards and carpets also match the colour and tie that whole interior together nicely.
One of the areas that you may wish to refit is the headliner, over the years it has gained a few stains here and there. However, it is more than likely the original headliner that came with the car almost 70 years ago, so you’d expect some wear and tear. You never know it may come back with a bit of elbow grease and strong fabric cleaners.

The boot section is large enough and you should have no issue fitting a few weekend bags in for all of those weekends that you will now spend touring the country going to some glorious vintage shows. As you can see the boot has been carpeted and this is where you will also find the spare wheel and jack.

Overall, the interior is in fairly good condition. The main elements are all in place and are presented well, it could just do with a bit of a tidy up around the edges and it’ll be an amazing interior for you to enjoy.

The Exterior

  • Great looks
  • Sort after sun visor, side light, and spotlights
  • Lots of chrome elements
It is a shame that modern cars don’t look like this, the simple sweeping lines of this Zephyr are truly beautiful, and this little classic will sit pride of place within your collection. The lines are further enhanced with the green paint and lots of ‘50s extras like the chrome and spotlights.

As this car has sat within a barn sleeping soundly for the past few years it is no surprise that the paintwork is in generally good condition, there are a few small areas that may need a bit of a touch up, but these shouldn’t put you off this wonderful looking car.

To help complement the green paint this Zephyr is dripping with chrome from front to back. Luckily for you, the condition of this chrome is good with some minor pitting but no major areas of obvious corrosion, with a bit of autosol and an afternoon this chrome should come back to its former glory.

The classic looks of this Zephyr are further enhanced by a few key details that are amazing to see, these include the white wall tyres, chromed pillar light, and the prominent sun visor. Amazing features that just add to the classic credentials of this car.

Overall, the exterior is in very nice condition, and you will spend countless hours just staring at this car in your collection.

The Mechanics

  • Starts, runs & drives well
  • Manual gearbox
  • With a little work, it’ll be excellent
The Zephyr Six gets its name from the inline six that was fitted under the bonnet, this provided a bit more power than its little brother the Consul which only had an inline four. Once you get this Zephyr dialled in properly it will run like a dream.

Luckily for you, the engine fitted to this Zephyr Six runs quite well, although it has sat in long-term storage after a little bit of fettling by the current custodian it came straight back to life. It starts with a bit of choke and after it has warmed up it’ll idle nicely. You may wish to do some further fettling on the carburettor to get it into a perfect running window.

Some of you may not be used to a column shift, but it is all part of the classic car charm. Once you get the hang of the gearbox you will be able to enjoy every trip out in this wonderful little classic Zephyr.
This is going to be a great little runner for you to pottle around the country lanes and to car shows up and down the country during the summer months.

Summary

After a little bit of TLC has been undertaken with this Zephyr you will have one amazing classic car, this will sit pride of place within your collection from day one of your ownership.
This Zephyr is filled with character and has its own personality, a personality that you will fall in love with throughout your time with the car. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to spend many happy hours at the helm of this beautiful classic.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
