Original components retained and refurbished where possible
Radford galvanised bulkhead
Recently re-registered with the DVLA with the assistance of the Land Rover Series One Club
The Appeal
After experimenting with several different wheelbases over the course of what would later become known as 'Series I' production, Rover settled upon the 88" wheelbase for its SWB models in 1956. This wheelbase would see Land Rover through to 1985, when the last of the leaf-sprung Series IIIs left the production line.
We're delighted to offer this early 88" Series I from 1956. As the photographs attest, this Land Rover has been rebuilt to a good standard, with a clear emphasis on preserving originality. The original 2.0-litre engine, axles, steering rack, and gearbox have all been refurbished rather than replaced, while a new galvanised bulkhead from Radford has been fitted. The scope of the mechanical work is considerable, with further details outlined below.
