The Appeal
The 1956 Volkswagen Beetle sits squarely in the desirable Oval Window era, a period that has long captivated collectors. This particular example has been transformed into something altogether more potent: a thoroughly engineered restomod that pairs the charm of its 1950s bodyshell with a modern drivetrain and significantly upgraded running gear.
At its heart is a 2.0-litre fuel-injected Subaru Legacy engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, while the chassis benefits from a Red 9 Design front end and uprated braking components sourced from Porsche. The vendor describes the car as very nice to drive, putting a massive smile on their face every time they use it. We can well believe it.
Purchased by the current owner in October 2002, this Beetle served as a daily driver for a decade before being stripped down for a big restoration. It is now offered for sale due to insufficient use, a rare opportunity to acquire a well-sorted, extensively modified Oval with a host of significant upgrades throughout.image.png1.88 MB

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
