Aston Martin's defining grand tourer the DB2/4 was a fast, beautiful and well-engineered coupe that still shines today. Built to replace the DB2 the 2/4 is a 2+2 sports car equipped with the famous Lagonda straight-six engine that could propel the handsome Aston to 60mph in around 10 seconds and on to a top speed of 120mph.

This Mk2 model was delivered new in the UK but has been Dutch registered since 2019. The matching numbers car retains its original engine and gearbox with chassis number 1264 and also comes with a FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens) identity card. 

During its time in England the car received a comprehensive, fully documented bare metal restoration between November 1979 and April 1980.

In addition to this early restoration additional works have been completed over the years by UK-based Aston Martin Specialists Davron, including an engine recondition in 2009, new clutch and flywheel in 2012 and according to the current owner, a thorough overhaul in 2018.

The car is eligible for entry into the historic Mille Miglia race should you wish to compete.

The car comes with an extensive and well-documented history file consisting of folders of receipts, invoices and correspondence as well as the restoration report. 

The original build sheet is also included and all mileages spanning the car's entire history have been meticulously recorded in a logbook.

The beige Connolly leather interior is in excellent overall condition. There is little degradation to any of the seats with only the driver's bolster suffering some minor wear and the carpets remain clean and dry and have not become threadbare in any areas. The Cashmere headlining is beautifully presented and is not damaged or sagging. 

Three-point seat belts were fitted during the restoration process as a modification and provide an additional level of safety. All of the original gauges and switchgear are present and correct and have not suffered any damage. 

The simple door cards are complete and damage free, as is the dashboard and the wood veneer is in good condition although it does carry some age-related haze and patina but this does not diminish the overall aesthetic of the cockpit. 

Following the aforementioned complete restoration in 1980 that included a full, bare metal respray, the subsequent 41 years have been kind to the car. The Connaught Green paintwork is still in lovely overall condition and there are minimal swirls and blemishes on the bodywork. 

All shut lines are straight and the car does not appear to have been involved in any accidents or received any bad repair work. 

All of the chrome trim pieces are present and correct and have not suffered any weathering or pitting. The original chrome wire wheels present incredibly well and the tyres have not deteriorated. This DB2/4 appears to be an honest, rust free example.

The six-cylinder Lagonda engine was overhauled in 2009 and as such remains in fine fettle and with a new clutch and flywheel fitted in 2012 there should be plenty of life left in them both. 

The engine bay is clean and tidy with those polished valve covers taking pride of place. The visible suspension components look to be in fine shape and the car remains correctly poised.

Although perhaps not as widely revered as the later DB5 the DB2/4 is just as desirable – a consummate and timeless British classic for the more distinguished, discerning driver. It's an achingly beautiful coupe that is just begging to be taken on long, leisurely, continental road trips. 

This particular example has clearly led a charmed life having been meticulously maintained and with a full restoration and extensive history under its belt it ticks a hell of a lot of boxes for any classic car enthusiast. 

Continue to cherish it and it will only increase in value, just don't forget to drive and enjoy it too.
