The Porsche Allgaier Tractor was a collaboration between Ferdinand Porsche and an agricultural machine manufacturer in Germany known as Allgaier. Originally these were manufactured in what was the Zeppelin factory in Friedrichshafen on the shore of Lake Constance up until the end of 1957, after which they were subsequently made under licence by Renault in Ireland. Wherever the origin, however, Porsche's agricultural output carried the same reputation for quality and precision engineering as its road cars.
This particular model, powered by a twin-cylinder diesel engine producing around 20bhp, is one of the very last to be made in Germany and spent most of its life working on a farm in the northern part of France. It was then brought to the UK where it was sold to an agricultural dealer in Surrey. The current owner purchased the tractor from the dealer in 2018 and has since spent many hours restoring it to the stunning condition it presents in today.
A local agricultural repairer and specialist was commissioned to completely check over the tractor for any defects, resulting in a replacement battery and clutch. The starter motor was also refurbished, along with numerous other jobs to bring the finished article to an incredibly high standard, both aesthetically and mechanically, with the vendor informing us that the Porsche is "a pleasure to ride".
Everything is present, correct and fully functional although there is a blanking plate in the dashboard that the vendor assumes is for an hour counter gauge. A correct German gauge has yet to be located but UK alternatives are readily available. All in all this is a wonderful piece of Porsche's rich history that presents just as well today as when it rolled out of the factory almost 70 years ago.image.png4.4 MB
