The Appeal
Triumph’s TR3 was always more about rugged capability than some of its British rivals. This car leans into that theme with a host of upgrades that improve its usability and driveability. What makes it so appealing is that, aside from a tiny tell-tale, you’d never know because the factory aesthetics are retained, including a set of body colour steels.
The clue to what lies beneath is the classic-style gear knob, which reveals five cogs. A slick Ford 5sp gearbox is part of a range of improvements to this pretty Pale Primrose narrow grille 1957 TR3 that make it ideal for touring and classic events. Other additions include rack-and-pinion steering, upgraded Delphi brakes, alternator conversion and suspension modifications. The vendor says that it drives quite unlike a standard TR3, describing it as ‘a special drive.’
Other recent work includes professionally rebuilding the carburettors plus setting up and tuning up the engine.
This is a really tidy and smartly presented TR3 with excellent paintwork, Interior and engine bay and underside sparingly used show car. But with that spec and those improvements, it’s tailor-made for getting out and enjoying some long runs.
