Highlights
∙Classic British design
∙3 owner vehicle
∙Low mileage small family car
The Background
Introduced in 1956 the Austin A35 was the replacement for the ever popular A30, with a more powerful 34 hp engine it enabled the car to reach a higher top speed and improved the small and nimble cars acceleration.
This car has a 948cc engine and with the Battleship Grey paintwork and contrasting red leather interior, it has a British charm to it. This 2 door family saloon is surely one of the most iconic designs of the fifties to grace the UK car market.
The History
This charming example has only three owners, and the current one has had it since 1997. Over the last twenty plus years it has been looked after, and on acquiring the vehicle the car has had thousands of pounds spent on it. This is an honest example and with a little TLC will make this a welcome addition to any family, and the perfect car to grace the open road for those weekend getaways.
The Paperwork
The car has had extensive servicing work carried out, and since 2006 the Austin’s been looked after when required. In 2008 a receipt (shown in photos) covered £4,500. The present owner also has had an overhaul of the brakes and cylinders, plus in 2014 four new tyres were fitted.
There are also a collection of tax discs and photos that go along with the car's history, this documents its life and also the care and affection the owners have had for this A35. As mentioned above, the car will revert to its original registration number of 286 YUR for the new owner. YDV 136 will not be assigned to this vehicle.
The Interior
The red leather seating has held up well and is in good overall condition, there are a few tears in the passenger seat, only slight and nothing that a trim repairer could not rectify. Carpets are in good order, and all switchgear and handles work and feel solid to the touch, the interior glass is also clean and shows no signs of marks.
The steering wheel is like new and the gear change and handbrake are working well, alongside the clutch and accelerator pedal, which have a nice feel to them with no creaking from anywhere.
The Exterior
The cars paintwork is in good condition generally, the main area that does require attention is the large crease in the drivers door, and also some small area of rust under the front and rear indicator lights. At the rear of the vehicle there is a small patch of rust where the paint has broken under the rear brake light.
Tyres are all good and were installed in 2014, centre hub caps also are in average condition with no dents or scratches.
The Mechanics
The vehicle is mechanically sound, and has also just been serviced along with a new battery as well. The steering is direct and there is good brake feel; as you’ll see from the receipts and money spent this hasn’t wanted for anything in its life to keep it in tip top condition under the bonnet.
The Appeal
Very few British classic cars have stood the test of time design wise, this is a characterful compact family car that has good history, ownership and with under 50,000 miles has plenty of fun and memories to give to its next owners.
