The Chevrolet Apache Stepside is a classic American pickup known for its bold styling and rugged charm. Part of Chevy’s Task Force series, the '58 model introduced a fresh quad-headlight design, a wider grille, and a more refined interior. The Stepside bed featured distinct, flared rear fenders and a narrower cargo box, giving it a vintage, utilitarian look. It came with a range of inline-six and V8 engine options, offering dependable performance for work or play.
This one, as you can see, has been built for play! The stunning custom paintwork and simple, tastefully modified interior have been put together superbly during its restoration, which took place in the States before the pickup was imported into the UK in 2014.
Finished in the stunning metallic Purple, which looks absolutely fantastic, especially once the sun is on it. The finish is excellent, and all the panels align with an equal gap.
Starting at the front, the chrome-work is excellent with no tarnishing to the bumper or headlight surrounds. The indicators and headlights are free from any damage. You will notice the custom bonnet with added air intakes. There is a small blemish in the paint around one of the vents, but the vendor informs us that this hasn't gotten any worse since he's owned the Apache.
From the side, with curves in all the right places, the pickup is straight as a die with no dings or dents. The windows are generally in good condition with no noticeable scratches. However, there is a small crack in the driver's side quarter window, which has been covered with the ‘Edge Of The Blade Car Club’ decal, so it isn’t noticeable. Around to the smooth rear end, this has been smoothed off nicely and a set of modern LED rear lights fitted, which are in good order.
The billet alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no tarnishing to the polished rims. The pickup uses 18-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear and is fitted with Jinyu tyres, all of which have plenty of tread remaining.
Inside, the cab has been kept clean and simple. The dashboard and all of the inside have been painted in satin black. The bench seat, door panel sections and headlining have been trimmed in leather with a purple diamond stitching. There is a fitted carpet and a set of mats in place to protect this. The wood-rim, three-spoke steering wheel is in excellent condition and the instruments are all working correctly, with the odometer showing just 1,096 miles.74882e82-7f10-4fdd-8f7e-c8865d58ce7d.jpg379.64 KB
The Mechanics
5.7-litre Small Block V8
New crate engine when built
Upgraded brakes
The small block V8 fires up without hesitation. The initial growl of the V8 soon comes to a smooth, burbling idle from the side-exit exhausts. The vendor reports that when the pickup was built, this was a new crate engine that was fitted.
Fitted with a three-speed automatic gearbox, the change is smooth and there are no untoward noises coming from the transmission.
Looking inside the engine bay and the underside of the pickup, this presents very well with no areas of concern.
Due to the improved performance, the brakes have been upgraded on the front to discs. These bring the Chevy to a stop in a straight line and with no issues reported.
