The Appeal
MG created the Coupe to expand its market reach and appeal to more luxury-orientated buyers. Stiffer than the convertible and obviously more comfortable, the car found its natural home as a highly capable long distance endurance rally car, especially where poor weather was expected.
Just 828 of the 6,272 1500 Coupes built remained as UK home market RHD cars, which makes this 1958 car exceptionally rare. A BMIHT certificate verifies the destination market and that the pretty colour combination of Old English White over black leather shown in photos is correct.
The car presents very well with nice detailing that appears to be factory correct, such as the steel wheels and original wheel and switchgear. The recent voluntary MOT in February 2025 supports this view. A sound example of these early, pretty MGA hard tops.
