The Appeal
The 1950s were an interesting time for the British motor industry. Inspired by bold American styling yet still very much scaled for UK roads and post-war fuel shortages, British offerings from the likes of Vauxhall, Austin, and Ford were aimed at young families often buying a car for the first time.
The Ford 100E Popular Deluxe is one of the most endearing British saloons of the late 1950s. With its sidevalve engine, three-speed gearbox, and charmingly simple mechanicals, it's an ambassador for a wonderfully uncomplicated era of motoring, and one that continues to attract a loyal following.
This 1959 example was restored around 2008, and the current owner acquired it a decade later, in 2018. Throughout their eight-year custodianship, it has been maintained as required. Period features such as pedal-operated high beam, vacuum wipers, a push washer, and a pull-to-start mechanism all remain in working order, while a metal sunvisor adds a smart finishing touch. The vendor describes it as a fun, quirky little car that attracts attention wherever it goes, and reports that it drives nicely.image.png4.27 MB

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle's status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
