The Appeal
This pairing of Model 100 and a sidecar was a popular one in the immediate post war years, the Panther’s torquey 598cc single, from which its ‘600 Sloper’ nickname derives, proving ideal for hauling around a sidecar packed with people and luggage. After all, this combination, and the Panther’s durability were proven by plucky Florence Blenkiron and Teresa Wallach who took one, plus sidecar, all the way from London to Cape Town in 1935.
The 1959 600 Sloper is paired with a lovely Garrard sidecar. Garrard was the high end choice for sporting and touring ‘chairs,’ something that is obvious from the quality of this stylish sidecar. It was likely one of the first to be built at the firm’s new Buckinghamshire works, and sadly one of the last before the firm folded in 1961. The sidecar features a comfortable bucket seat, screen and large boot.
This evocative combination is a feast for the eyes, helped by the impressive condition. The black, chrome and white colour scheme carries The vendor acquired it for his collection in 2011 and been used regularly but sparingly. Despite the limited use we’re told that the Panther starts easily and runs well.
For those seeking a usable, imposing classic motorcycle combination with genuine road presence and a loyal following, this Panther and Garrard pairing is well worth a closer look.
The vendor says:
“This Panther is very good condition and with a very attractive side car.”
