The Appeal

Everyone needs to own a classic British sportscar at least once in their life, so you might as well make it a fully restored example of an Austin-Healey. This car has been repainted in the fetching combination of cream and red, and has a matching retrimmed red leather interior. The standard of the finish looks very good throughout.
And the good news doesn’t stop there: the engine has been rebuilt, as have the carburettors and most of the rest of the mechanical components. The desirable overdrive unit has been replaced and the brakes have been overhauled, making this a particularly useable example of a 3000.
So we’re really struggling to think of any reason why you’d decide not to consider this Austin-Healey.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered 9th January 1960
  • Chassis number BT7 6271
  • Fully restored in recent years
  • Repainted and retrimmed
  • Engine rebuilt and extensive mechanical servicing completed
  • Extensive invoices for parts and servicing
  • Purchased by the current owner in June 2020
  • Carte Grise
  • The car has reportedly covered only 3,000 km since restoration

The Interior

  • Beautifully retrimmed throughout
  • Excellent leather seats with white piping
  • New carpets
The bright red interior of this Austin-Healey has been completely retrimmed and looks very smart indeed, with the bold colour running throughout, from the dashboard to the seats to the carpets.
Its retrimmed leather seats look comfortable and supportive, and there are also two seats for occasional use to the rear. They are all finished in red hide with contrasting white piping and look very tidy.
The carpets have clearly seen little wear and remain very clean, with a thick pile and neatly trimmed edging. Rubber inserts protecting the high-wear areas of both footwells.
The red leather clad dashboard sports a full set of instruments, as well as the heater’s sliding controls, pull switches and a grab handle for when your passenger feels the need for a little reassurance.

The Exterior

  • Superb cream and red paintwork
  • Chrome plating excellent throughout
  • Underside very clean and tidy
The sweeping lines of an Austin-Healey 3000 form one of the great pieces of design of the twentieth century. This car looks good from any angle and you won’t ever get bored of opening your garage door to see it glistening in front of you.
Having been repainted in recent years, the red and cream paintwork is in excellent condition throughout, with no obvious issues to report. it retains a deep shine and appears to be free from major scratches and chips.
Much of the exterior trim is chrome plated and this has been well polished. We couldn’t see any significant pitting in the chrome. Similarly, the lamp lenses remain clear ad bright and the rubber seals appear fresh.
The car runs on chrome plated wire wheels which are as smart as the rest of the chrome and appear to be in sound condition. They wear a recently fitted set of tyres which seem to retain good tread.
Underneath, the body is extremely clean, with no signs of corrosion or damage. All the running gear is similarly well presented and we can believe the vendor, who tells us that the car has never been used in the rain since its restoration.

The Mechanics

  • 2,912cc C-Series six-cylinder engine
  • Four-speed manual transmission with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears
  • Engine, brakes, axles, clutch and carburettors all rebuilt
The 3000 is well known as a capable sports car, with its 2.9-litre six-cylinder engine able to produce very good performance results. And this particular example benefits from having been fully rebuilt, which is said to have included new pistons and rings, condos, bearings and the crankshaft has been reground. It is also running a pair of rebuilt S.U. HD6 carburettors, which allow the engine to produce a reported 150hp.
Elsewhere, the vendor tells us that the clutch has been replaced, the brakes — front discs and drums to the rear — have been overhauled, the rear axle has been rebuilt, along with the front suspension. The stainless steel exhaust is new and the overdrive unit has been replaced.
This all means that the car is now ready to be used and enjoyed with confidence.

Summary

A fully restored example of a fabulous British classic. It is in superb condition, both mechanically and aesthetically.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
