1960 Triumph TR3A LHD

Highlights

  • Recent body-off restoration
  • Registered in the Republic of Ireland
  • Perfect for European driving

The Appeal

If you’re looking for a classic convertible to enjoy on the roads of Europe then may we present to you this 1960 Triumph TR3A, a fully restored LHD car which is registered in Ireland and hence is easily transferred to other countries in the EU.
The body-off restoration was carried out by an engineer around four years ago and the car has covered fewer than 2,000 miles since. The history shows that it’s had a significant sum spent on it and, now fitted with MX5 seats for extra comfort, it would be an ideal holiday home or touring car.
The seller reports that it drives beautifully and that there’s nothing to be done other than enjoy it. Get your bid in now to get the opportunity to soak up some European summer sun from behind the wheel of this lovely Primrose yellow roadster.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built 12 November 1959 and registered new in the USA in 1960
  • Body off restoration carried out by an Irish engineer four years ago
  • Work included a complete chassis rebuild, new rear valance, drivetrain rebuild and screw on oil filter conversion
  • Seats swapped for more comfortable and supportive MX5 items (original seat frames also supplied)
  • Full photographic record
  • Extensive history file containing numerous invoices
  • Registered in the Republic of Ireland

The Interior

  • MX5 seats
  • Dashboard in good condition
  • Everything works
Behind the diminutive door is a very tidy cabin finished all in black. The original seats, which are included, had suffered considerable wear and have been replaced with a pair of MX5 seats which are considerably more comfortable and supportive.
Behind the lovely thin-rimmed steering wheel, the dashboard is in good condition and everything is in full working order. Back in the boot, the black lining is in good order and you would be happy to stash your shopping there.

The Exterior

  • Primrose yellow paintwork
  • Chrome original and tidy
  • Four good tyres
Primrose yellow suits the car well and the paintwork is in generally good condition with chrome that is original but tidy. On close inspection there is a split in the paint on the passenger side front wing but, overall, it’s very presentable
The wheels are all in good order, too, and wear tyres with good tread all round. Although you’d mostly want to be enjoying it in the sun, the hood and door tops are all very smart too, with clear windows all round and no damage.

The Mechanics

  • 2 litre inline four engine
  • Four speed manual gearbox
  • Spin on oil filter conversion
With a fully rebuilt drivetrain and fewer than 2,000 miles since the restoration, the seller informs us that it goes, stops and steers beautifully. As such, it’s very usable and should make the next owner very happy.

Summary

A nicely restored TR3A that has had all the hard work done. The next owner can simply get on with enjoying it, preferably in a sunny corner of Europe, but the weather gear is all there just in case.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
