The Appeal
For ‘60s microcar fans looking for something a little more special than the cute Fiat 500, there was Autobianchi’s 500-based Bianchina. Pitched at 20% more expensive than its sibling, the range also included the pretty Luigi Rapi-penned Transformabile. It offered buyers a fully folding vinyl roof similar to the pre-war Topolino.
As you can see in the photos, it is a really lovely little car. This one’s pale blue paintwork definitely adds to the appeal, as does the well-kept red interior. We’re told that the car is highly original, including paintwork and interior, but we can’t confirm that.
The car spent its life in Italy before being imported to the UK in 2018. The buyer acquired it in 2021 and tells us that it has been used sparingly and always dry stored. It is said to start, run and drive well.
As an alternative to the more common 500, this charismatic little 2+2 convertible positively oozes la dolce vita.
The vendor says:
“A charming and increasingly rare 1961 Autobianchi Bianchina Transformabile offered in highly original condition. This is an honest, well-preserved example that has clearly been cared for and garage stored. An ideal addition to any Italian classic car collection or for someone looking to enjoy one of the most characterful small classics of its era.”
