The Appeal
In austere post war Britain, those looking to latch onto some Rolls-Royce, lord of the manor charm, but with less deep pockets, chose Humber’s regal Super Snipe. After all, it was the car favoured by Field Marshall ‘Monty’ Montgomery and the Royal Family too.
Essentially a six-cylinder Hawk, the Super Snipe mixed transatlantic styling with some firmly traditional wood and leather luxury trim. The Series 3, introduced in late 1960, leaned into the Americana with its quartet of headlights. Today, these exceptionally rare cars make excellent show cars and, of course, are eligible for Goodwood’s elite parking areas.
The vendor tells us that this beautiful maroon 1961 Series 3 is ‘the best in the country.’ It certainly has the provenance to match the condition. It was in the same family from new until 2024, when it passed to its mechanic. We are told it has covered only 40,000 miles, which the seller verifies.
As an alternative to the more common 60s luxury saloons, the handsome Super Snipe is compelling. This car’s interesting history adds to its appeal.
