You read about them. You secretly hope you’ll find one. But rarely do you find them. Until now: here it is, a genuine ‘barn find’ (well, technically a garage) Austin Healey 3000 MkII BT7 that is ripe for restoration.
In classic ‘barn find’ tradition, it has been in the garage for over 40 years with just two registered keepers in its long life. It is very original too, retaining its Healey Blue paintwork with blue interior and hood, and with the 3L engine on triple carburettors. And to dial things up a further notch, it is a rare RHD, home market car.
This BT7 2+2 was factory built in September 1961 and first registered in the UK in May 1962. Chassis records and a BMIHT certificate confirm it is an early MkII with those multiple carburettors and a slatted grille.
Clearly this is a purchase for the enthusiast as it will need a full restoration. But all the main bits are there, including some spares plus other parts available by separate negotiation. There is scope to restore this car, with its fascinating history, to your ‘perfect’ 3000 specification, or retain the factory originality.
