The Appeal
BMW managed to combine carefully chosen ingredients to offer, in the early 1960s, an elegant 2+2 cabriolet capable of rivalling models such as the Alfa Romeo Spider or MG B. Powered by an evolution of the flat-twin engine derived from the BMW R67 motorcycle, mounted in a rear overhang position, the 700 benefits from bodywork designed by Giovanni Michelotti and the engineering quality that built the marque's reputation. Its 2+2 cabin also offers a degree of versatility thanks to a folding rear bench seat that allows for increased boot space.
Of the approximately 188,000 BMW 700s produced, only 2,592 were assembled in Cabriolet form by coachbuilder Bauer, making it a particularly sought-after model today.
Presented in an elegant cream white livery paired with a blue velvet interior, this example has belonged to the same owner since 1993. It benefited from a complete restoration in 1995, carried out by its current proprietor, with an extensive photographic file documenting the various stages. It is moreover an example with matching numbers.
Given the age of this restoration, a few minor presentation imperfections are visible, as the photographs show, without detracting from the excellent overall presentation. Finally, an MOT valid until June 2028 provides additional reassurance.
Rare, appealing and technically original, this BMW 700 Cabriolet represents a charming alternative to the more common European cabriolets of the 1960s. 20260708023426069575-6a4e5ff211027.jpg312.32 KB
