A dream car for many, this Series 1 Jaguar E-Type fixed head coupe looks the absolute business in black with a light grey interior.
Originally sold in the USA, it was imported last year and has been through a comprehensive restoration with the body taken back to bare metal.
The whole process has been taken care of by a number of E-Type specialists, with the oily bits taken care of by Rushton Engineering. The result is quite the looker but also very usable as a coupe and having had a full mechanical refresh.
Sporting grey leather upholstery and a gorgeous wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel, the fully retrimmed interior is very inviting and the view over the long, sweeping bonnet is one to savour.
The leather is all very fresh with a slight amount of wear to the driver’s seat bolster. The headlining is all new and, with matching sun visors, a particular highlight.
The dashboard and switchgear are in very good condition. There is a Blaupunkt radio installed and, though this is sadly not currently operational, the music from the car’s exhaust means that it’s unlikely to be a priority for the next owner.
In the rear, the luggage deck holds a matching leather suitcase and soft bag which match the car’s solid black exterior.
Finished in solid black, and used only rarely in the dry since its restoration, we’re sure you will agree that the distinctive bodywork looks lovely.
With refinished chrome and fresh wire wheels, the combined effect is a car that presents very well indeed.
Never having seen the rain, the underside is reportedly also in very good condition and the stainless steel exhausts which emerge at the rear are as new. Overall, this is definitely a car which will turn heads.amvNQvjVM2VZmysMrF9hTsltMH9ha4vgoQWDORQN.jpeg776.5 KB
The Mechanics
3.8litre period-correct engine
Triple Weber carbs
4 speed gearbox
Sports exhaust
Lift the front section of the car, and the engine bay is a work of art. It’s immaculately finished and really shows off the hard work that has gone into the rebuild.
Triple Weber carbs and a sports exhaust mean that it sounds fabulous and the seller notes that it benefits from regular use, though this shouldn’t be a chore. On the road, the seller reports that it drives well with the new brakes proving effective, no untoward noises and a meaty exhaust note.
Fresh from a comprehensive restoration and with a very desirable colour combination, this is an E-Type not to be missed.
