The Appeal
Camping really does not get more classic than a Volkswagen Kombi Type 2 T1 ‘split screen’ van. But when we’re keen to get to the campsite, we’re a little less enamoured of the standard van’s reluctance to tackle hills, motorways or anything above 55mph.
That is why we love this ‘63 Splittie. Aside from a set of stylish Fuchs-esque alloys, it looks standard. But beneath the rear deck lies a 1,941cc air cooled engine replete with a host of mechanical upgrades plus an IRS rear end conversion that makes it properly go. That means less stress on the journey, more time preparing the BBQ and some sundowners.
Finished in well kept light ‘gelato’ mint green with cream across the inside and outside, this is a very pretty van that is in great condition. It has a practical interior layout and comes to market with recent work including new starter motor, distributor and battery. It has also recently been checked over by a specialist and given a clean bill of health.
This is a great classic camper that will transform any trip into a proper escape.
The vendor says:
“I will be sad to see my van go but we are moving overseas. It is such a nice van to drive with super comfy seats and full of character and good vibes. I love how it makes people smile when I drive past them.”
