The Background

The Volkswagen split screen is one of the most iconic modes of transport, based on a delivery van the vehicle was perfect for that weekend getaway and since its inception has seen its popularity grow year by year.

The vehicles were also used by the emergency services and many commercial businesses, as they are these days where conversions make them prime as a mobile coffee van and many other business ventures.

The History

The current owner has enjoyed this VW Camper since collection in 2015, the car was registered in the UK to the owner in 2014 but was undergoing restoration that year.

The vehicle has been used for weekend breaks and Volkswagen club meets and shows. Purchased from respected independent VW camper dealership Morecambe and Wize, the finish inside is fitting with the vehicles originality and ready for the next owners to enjoy.
The seller has not used the vehicle much in the last few years and is limited for storage hence the sale of the Camper which he has owned for then last eight years.

The Paperwork

The documentation that comes with the vehicle shows the validity from VW Germany of the cars identity, also present are some receipts for small part and a new battery was fitted in October 2020.

The Interior

The cars interior is like new, the green and white bench seats in the front show no sign of wear, carpets are in good order as well throughout.

The rear cabin area is again in extremely good condition with very little use, included is the Campinggaz unit which the owner has stated has never been used, electrics are also fitted inside and all units are clean and free of marks. The rear bench seat is a full width rock n roll style bed and folds down to make a double bed, all materials are like new.
The panels inside are also clean throughout, showing that the quality if the restoration and the care that this Camper has had over the years.
There is a Sony CD unit installed, owner notes that the fuel gauge is not working (a common issue) and also the front wipers are also inoperative at the moment.

The Exterior

The beige green paintwork is in good order, there are areas around the screens and hinges that show some small areas that may just require some attention. Sills look clean as are the front and rear white bumpers.

All glass is clear of chips or scratches, tyres are Road 2005 Event all round and have good tread throughout. The wheels chrome hubs are also clean and no signs of damage to these.
There is a scratch on the off side front door bottom edge, otherwise all areas look clean and free of any damage.

The Mechanics

The vehicle was supplied by Morecambe and Wize in 2014 where it was restored, cosmetically and mechanically, and has also been treated to a popular alternator upgrade replacing the somewhat outdated dynamo unit and an electronic distributor unit so no pesky points and condensers to deal with. The vehicle was serviced by Station Road Garage two years ago (no receipts) and last MOT was at 89751 miles in 2016, being an historic vehicle the owner has not had it MOT’d since.
To the owners knowledge the vehicle is running well, with the exception of the wipers and fuel gauge.

The Appeal

Air-cooled VW’s are part of the classic car scene and this 1963 Sundial split screen is a very clean example, with its interior kitted out it really is the perfect way to spend your holidays on the move, whether in the UK or abroad.

The perfect combination of dining, sleeping and fun in one retro package.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
