Highlights

  • Restored to an exceedingly high standard and presented in fantastic condition
  • Rebuilt original engine - reportedly with almost no kilometres covered since
  • Expertly retrimmed interior to period correct specification
  • An incredibile piece of Italian automotive heritage, bringing strong nostalgia vibes

The Appeal

Exuding style, elegance and sophistication in equal measures, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider is quite simply ‘La Dolce Vita’ on four wheels. These dainty roadsters are not only wonderful to look at, they’re also engaging to drive with an eager twin-cam under the bonnet that begs to be revved hard through all five of the gears you have at your disposal.
Here we have a beautifully restored 1964 example, imported to Italy from the United States in 1997 and now restored to a high standard. The extensively repaired Pininfarina bodywork now looks incredible, resplendent in a coat of quintessentially Italian red paint and with new chromework that gleams in the sunlight. The interior too has been retrimmed very well and the convertible hood is really smart. We’re informed that the original 1.6-litre twin-cam has been rebuilt, with the car barely having turned a wheel since.
If you’re on the lookout for a ‘60s Alfa that’s as well sorted mechanically as it is cosmetically, then look no further than this.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally supplied to the USA
  • Imported to Italy in 1997 where it has remained ever since
  • Comprehensively restored and now ready to enjoy
  • Comprehensive photographic record of the restoration work
  • The vendor informs us that the car has barely been driven since the engine rebuild was completed
  • The engine fitted is apparently original to the car

The Interior

  • Retrimmed to period specification
  • Presented in very good condition with barely any wear
  • Black vinyl upholstery
On the inside, this Alfa Romeo is a lovely place to be. Its charm lies in its simplicity, with the fixtures and fitting being in no way ostentatious. Rubber matting lines the footwells and the driver is presented with a basic array of gauges set into a fairly plain steel dashboard. The controls you interact with do feel expensive though, with a delightful thin-rimmed steering wheel and tactile wooden gear knob. There’s no radio, but why would you need one when you can listen to the intoxicating snarl of that twin-cam up front?
The vendor informs us that it has been totally retrimmed and so there’s little to be found in the way of wear. The seats look great and there’s no sagging or any notable abrasions to the vinyl upholstery. The red carpeting looks to be very smart under those aforementioned rubber mats which are also in great condition. There are barely any signs of use to the controls either besides the lightest of wear and we’re assured that everything works correctly.

The Exterior

  • Extensive fabrication work carried out to the body
  • Repainted in red to a very high standard
  • The underside has been completely restored and also painted red
  • New chromework
  • Canvas hood taut and in really good condition
  • No damage, corrosion or excessive wear to be seen
As a freshly restored car, this Alfa displays remarkably few blemishes and everywhere you look, it’s in really pristine order. The vendor shows us a photographic album detailing the extent of the bodywork and you can see that a great deal of the steel was replaced with new metal. Italian cars of this vintage are prone to corrosion issues, so it’s reassuring to see this car has been gone through very thoroughly indeed.
The body is really straight, with good shut lines and smooth contours. The paint looks incredibly smart and the vendor informs us there are no blemishes of any note anywhere to be found. The chromework looks great and it is apparently all new. The bumpers and trims are straight with no evidence of corrosion. The car sits on steel wheels, complete with hubcaps which look great.
The underside is immaculate, with evidence of a great deal of restoration work. It is now finished in red along with the remainder of the car and looks fabulous. The convertible hood looks great, the fabric is taut and the vendor demonstrates that it operates correctly.

The Mechanics

  • Original 1.6-litre four cylinder twin-cam
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Rebuilt engine with very few kilometres completed since
The standout highlight of any classic Alfa is usually the engine, and the Nord twin-cam is amongst the most characterful four-cylinder units ever fitted to a car.
This 1.6-litre engine is apparently original to the car and the vendor informs us that it has covered very few kilometres since being completely rebuilt. They demonstrate that the car starts well and runs nicely. We’re informed that it is smooth to drive, with no faults in need of rectification.

Summary

They say every petrolhead should own an Alfa Romeo at some point, so why not make this your next acquisition?
Seldom is such a comprehensively restored example offered for sale, so be sure not to miss this excellent opportunity to purchase a sweet slice of Italian style.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
