The Appeal
The Lambretta needs no introduction. Innocenti’s crowning glory has been transporting Italians – and countless other nationalities – around towns and cities since the 125M first puttered into life in 1947. By the time the LI 150 Series III was being manufactured, between 1962 and 1967, the Lambretta came with two-tone paintwork covering a centrally mounted engine which considerably improved stability over earlier versions.
This Italian 1964 Series III was a mid-production cycle model and is presented to market in very good order. The vendor tells us that there are no scratches, dents, rust or repairs across the paintwork, with all chrome and metal parts described by its current owner as being in excellent condition. The same is true for the fuel tank and fork seals. This LI 150 retains the many quirks of Lambretta ownership – the single circular mirror mounted on a slender spindle, the diminutive sloping rear luggage rack, the horizontal bar speedo – yet it looks as if it was manufactured far more recently than 1964.
An ongoing programme of refurbishments and upgrades has seen the brakes and transmission recently serviced. The owner says this Series III starts, runs, brakes and changes gear without any problems, describing the engine and mechanical condition as excellent in all respects, with all lights working. So comprehensive is the refurbishment that photographs still show protective blue film across the replacement whitewall tyres – the film has since been removed to let these period features stand out.
