The Appeal
Attend any classic car rally or event, and you’re virtually guaranteed to see a TR4. Rugged, stylish and entertaining, these cars lend themselves to upgrades and improvements. This pretty green over tan ‘64 TR4 is a case in point.
The current keeper, a classic rally and event enthusiast, bought this car to enjoy on relaxed events and tours rather than competition events, for which he has other classics. This car’s extensive list of improvements to the engine, gearbox, brakes, and suspension is a testament to his knowledge and enthusiasm for classic cars.
Despite his more relaxed plans for this car, it has been used extensively, covering nearly 20,000 miles since 2013. Notable trips have included the 3,200-mile ‘Cape To Cape’ across the UK and Ireland in 2022 and various HRCR and HERO events. The car came fourth overall in a HERO Challenge event and ‘won’ the three-day HERO Summer Trial.
To match that determined use, the car comes with a huge list of ongoing maintenance and improvements. Highlights include a rebuilt engine 18,000 miles ago, a competition clutch in 2024 and even a heated windscreen. The full list is detailed below. We recommend boiling a kettle and settling in for a long read.
The previous keeper invested heavily in the car’s cosmetics. It remains in very good condition. With its de-bumpered looks, Minilites and Surrey Top, it is certainly a stylish car too.
The vendor is only selling because he wants something a little more modern. It is a sign of his approach to classics and maintenance that the car comes to market with a voluntary MOt valid to February 2026 containing to no advisories.
The vendor says:
“The car has been maintained and developed into a well-sorted, quick drive over the last 12 years, regardless of cost. There is a copious invoice file to evidence this.
“A great way to enjoy top-down classic motoring or, if the weather is inclement, by use of the hard or Surrey tops. The fitting of good intermittent wiper options, heated front screen and lighting, overdrive and wiper controls make the car an easy and pleasant drive all year round.”
