The Appeal

The ultimate pony car? Perhaps even the ultimate American sports car. One thing is for sure, the Ford Mustang is one of the all time great American exports. Defining an era and sitting firmly at the top of the ranks as one of the most iconic automobiles made to date. It's certainly made a big impression since first exhibited at the 1964 World’s Fair.
A very early 1965 model, this wonderful 289 Mustang looks glorious in its cream and gold splendour, and brings with it the sultry soundtrack of the oh so wonderful 1960s. A true piece of automotive art, it's exceptionally well presented inside and out and will undoubtedly bring a horde of smiles and enjoyment for a new loving owner.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered 01/01/1965
  • Imported into the UK circa June 2011
  • The car spent some time in the Kent area prior to being acquired by the current owner in late 2016
  • The Mustang is believed to have been subject to some restoration and reupholstery work prior to the current vendors acquisition however we do not have supporting paperwork for this
  • MOT records indicate incredibly limited mileage has been amassed since the car’s arrival in the UK
  • MOT, tax and ULEZ exempt due to the car’s age and historic status
  • Lacking in physical paperwork, however examination shows it to be a clearly well cared for car
  • Fully UK registered with accompanying V5

The Interior

  • Excellent, highly original interior space, in great overall order
  • Believed to have been subject to some reupholstery work by a previous owner
  • Rich black seating front and rear in a like new state, with good quality stitching and cushioning
  • Two matching black door panels in fine form with impeccable chrome decorative trim and door furniture
  • Custom wood rim three spoke steering wheel
  • Iconic 1960s horizontal speedometer
  • Interior chrome trim presents very well throughout
  • Plush black carpeting throughout
  • Tinted orange sun visors which really do look the part and are a nice aesthetic touch in the cabin
  • Large carpeted boot area at the rear, under which hide solid body coloured floors
  • Angular black dash panel appears to be of a similarly high quality to the rest of the interior trim pieces and fixings
  • Manual roll down windows front and rear

The Exterior

  • Simply glorious exterior styling, iconic by its very nature
  • More unusual but rather fitting yellow cream paint scheme with gold racing stripes
  • In great overall aesthetic order, a truly well preserved and presented example of and early Mustang
  • Paintwork appears to be in good shape, with no areas of damage or major blemishing to be seen upon inspection
  • Good chrome trim to be seen throughout, including the front and rear bumpers, side trim, and iconic front grille piece
  • Panel gaps appear concise and consistent across the car
  • Glass work and badging present smartly
  • Sat on four excellent American Racing five spoke alloy wheels giving the car a much needed, subtle, but more aggressive stance

The Mechanics

  • 289cu V8 understood to be a C-Code engine nestled neatly under the bonnet
  • Three-speed manual gearbox
  • During its current ownership the engine has been removed and the block repainted and many of the ancillaries rechromed
  • The car fires into life with ease, providing an exceptional, but not brash, V8 soundtrack from its rear exit exhausts
  • Appears to have a higher specification aftermarket radiator
  • The vendor reports a lovely driving experience from the mustang, with a good level of power and smooth, crisp gear changes
  • Underside presents very well, and appears to be clean and solid

Summary

There’s just something about a Mustang. An unrivalled level of cool one simply does not get with other cars. There can't be many among us who haven't idolised the idea of owning this little slice of the American dream, and the 1965 example we have here allows the perfect opportunity for just that.
Well presented aesthetically and mechanically, in a great colour scheme and with a manual transmission. It certainly ticks all the boxes to make it a great pony car, and must certainly be one of the more interesting quality examples available on the market today. Prospective Mustang buyers, look no further.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
