1965 Jaguar 3.8 S-Type Mk2

Highlights

  • Impressive S-type with extensive work done
  • Complete set of invoices since 2011
  • Highly original with a beautiful interior
  • Power steering and disc brakes

The Appeal

Introduced in 1963, the Jaguar S-type was an effort to create a luxurious car without the bulk and cost of the Mark X. Effectively a rework of the Mk2 design it was an impressive piece of engineering, with an independent rear suspension and a sprightly 3.8 engine. The result was an impressive long-distance, high-speed cruiser that quickly took hold as a luxurious - but not overly expensive - car.
This example has been very well cared for throughout, with an impressive paper trail and plenty of money spent on keeping it at its best. While it carries a few marks of its age, there’s no doubt that it’ll be a gem for any car enthusiast with an interest in the 60s scene.

The History and Paperwork

  • Purchased new in 1965 (with original paperwork included)
  • Supplied by H.A. FOX & Co of Old Bond Street London W.1. On 30th July 1965
  • 6 previous MOTs
  • The paperwork trail suggests that the combined mileage of 38,551 may well be it's true mileage, having had a clock change at 16,823 miles on the 12th of June 1968, now showing 38728 miles, although this cannot be guaranteed
  • Impressive file of vintage paperwork from the car’s delivery
  • Original service manual, facility brochure and log book
  • Spare parts catalogue included
  • Original service policy included from 1965

The Interior

  • Impressive vintage interior with walnut accents and green leather
  • New bespoke carpets in a well-matched bottle green
  • No cracked leather throughout seating and console trim
  • Some signs of wear to fold-out armrests and rear seat
  • Some loss of veneer to wooden accents below dashboard
  • Some marks and wear to leather door cards
  • Clean, well-kept boot with no clear signs of wear
  • Ultimately an impressive 57 year old interior throughout, still beautifully presented

The Exterior

  • Original dark green colour scheme with eyecatching chrome accents
  • Slight patina throughout chrome accents while still presenting very well
  • The bodywork presents well with clean, well kept paintwork but in need of some attention where signs of microblistering are evident in some few areas
  • Small dent to right-hand wing above indicator, with slight paint loss
  • Eye catching Jaguar chrome hubcaps with wheel trims
  • New tyres installed in 2021
  • Jacking points replaced
  • Solid, well-kept underside with Waxoyl finish

The Mechanics

  • Impressive mechanical condition with a long line of work undertaken
  • Independent rear suspension based on the E type

  • Steering box reconditioned in 2022
  • PAS box reconditioned in 2022
  • Other smaller invoices included, bringing total spent to over £11,900 in the past eleven years
  • We’re informed that the car drives well and is very responsive, with good quality brakes, reliable engine and good oil pressure

Summary

A highly impressive, well-kept S-type, this car’s extensive history file and excellent condition make for an eye-catching survivor. The distinct character, beautiful interior and rather sophisticated feel make this attractive S-type an utterly excellent investment, with the vintage paperwork only adding further value to the vehicle.

An excellent all-rounder with only minor cosmetic faults to report.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
