The Appeal
If your MGB interests lie more in the car’s Monte Carlo and London to Sydney exploits than tootling down to the pub on a sunny Sunday, then this characterful 1965 roadster is for you. It was professionally converted to rally specification by Browns & Gammon in 1998 and has since undertaken five international rallies, including three consecutive Classic Marathons.
The work included boring out the engine to 1,878cc, fitting a close-ratio differential, fully integrated roll cage and Ridgard bucket seats with four-point competition harnesses. The fuel and brake lines have been routed inside the car, and it features sump and fuel tank guards.
Beneath the rally-ready specification, the car retains its original 1965 chassis and trim, finished in British Racing Green with a removable cream hardtop. The vendor describes the bodywork as being in very good condition, with only minor rally-related marks and scratches. The interior remains largely original aside from the competition modifications.
Having been in the same family for over four decades, this MGB has not been used regularly in recent years. The vendor notes that the fuel tank sender unit likely needs replacing and the brakes require attention. That said, the vendor states the engine starts on the key and the car runs and drives well, with the close-ratio differential providing what the vendor describes as impressive handling and strong pull. With its documented rally history and honest, well-sorted specification, this is a car that is ready to be enjoyed once more.

“The car is mechanically in sound working order and is crying out to be taken rallying again. In general it has not been used or driven much in the last 20 years, but has been kept garaged the entire time. From a driving point of view, the car handles really well and pulls like a train. The close-ratio differential means it has a huge amount of torque, ideal for pulling away from standing starts or for sustained hill climb rally stages! The car has been in the family for nearly 50 years and has been cherished and will be greatly missed, but it needs to go to a new home and using!”
