The Appeal
The earliest short-wheelbase 911s occupy a special place in the Porsche pantheon. Produced in relatively small numbers during the model's formative years, these 1964–65 cars are the purest expression of the original concept: lighter, more delicate, and more viscerally engaging than anything that followed. For historic racing entrants, a matching-numbers example from this period is beyond rare.
Chassis 301140 was completed on 3rd May 1965 and delivered new to California, where it began life as a road car. It has since been restored by the Dutch Porsche specialist Duel Motorsport and built up as a competitive race car. The 2.0-litre flat-six, still wearing its original Solex carburettors, has been developed to produce 180 bhp, while the car retains its matching-numbers engine and gearbox. The bodywork is finished in Ivory white, with a heated windscreen and ultra-lightweight Perspex side and rear windows as part of its race specification.
The car is eligible to compete in a wide range of historic motorsport events: the 2.0L Cup, Pall Mall events with MRL, Spa 6-hour, Le Mans Classic, Masters Historic Racing, and road rallies such as Tour Auto and Modena Cento Ore. The vendor notes that the fuel tank, seat, and harnesses will need renewal before the car can return to competitive action, but the fundamentals are firmly in place.1965-porsche-911-6a99635337fb4.jpg2.18 MB
History and Paperwork

Originally delivered via P.C. Pacific in Burlingame, California, to Mr Gerald Stoodly Jr. of Walnut Creek, California
The vendor describes the car as being in good condition overall
Built as a competitive race car, though it has not been raced in recent years
Heated windscreen fitted
Side and rear windows are ultra-lightweight Perspex
Fuel tank validity has expired and requires renewal
Racing seat validity has expired and requires renewal
Harnesses have expired and require renewal
This car's simple livery, white paintwork and black steel wheels lend it a pleasingly understated appearance, offering the new owner a blank canvas should they wish to apply a scheme of their own. As the photographs show, the Porsche is beautifully presented and has evidently been race-prepared to a very high standard. As noted above, various elements will require renewal in order to be compliant with race regulations.
2.0-litre (1,991cc) air-cooled NA flat-six engine (engine number 901212)
Five-speed manual gearbox (gearbox number 101124)
Engine modified to produce 180 bhp, per the vendor
Fitted with original Solex carburettors
180 bhp is not insignificant in a car so light, and the early short-wheelbase 911s such as this offer lively handling on the limit. The vendor notes the car will require preparation before returning to competition. Once race-ready, it will be a competitive race entry for the next custodian.1965-porsche-911-6a9963536a05c.jpg1.87 MB BEFORE YOU BUY
