Appeal

Meticulously restored with subtle improvements and modifications to enhance the usability and driving experience, this is an opportunity not to be missed by any air-cooled VW enthusiast.

Able to keep up with modern traffic with ease and yet offer a luxurious take on the classic air-cooled camping experience, this 1965 Split-Screen panel van has a rich and interesting history and offers turn-key adventures for the next owner to enjoy throughout the year.

History & Paperwork

  • Built in 1965 and delivered to a Swedish dairy to be used in kerbside milk deliveries
  • 2009 a full restoration took place prior to importation into the UK
  • 2011 it was registered in the UK and displayed at various VW shows throughout the country
  • In 2012, new owners undertook further improvements including interior upgrades by Tins Restoration & Kustoms
  • There is a current V5c registration document in the vendor’s name
  • Copy of a VW magazine featuring an article on this van
  • Numerous invoices for servicing work and parts
  • Registered as a historic vehicle therefore Mot exempt and road tax free

Interior

Inside , this “Splitty” has been fully restored & equipped to a very high standard. There’s the re-finished dash which houses a retro style Blaupunkt radio with smart phone connectivity, the front bench seat has been re-upholstered and seat belts have been fitted.

There’s custom built cabinets & draws containing a fridge & oven underneath, a gas hob up top,
pop up electric sockets & a tv which rises by remote control out of the worktop.

The rear bench seat converts into a “Rock & Roll “ bed , giving plenty of room for two to sleep comfortably.
Subtle LED strips provide lighting throughout the rear section which is fully lined and of course matches front to rear.

In excellent condition throughout, there is very little in the way of wear and tear and this VW has obviously been extremely well looked after since conversion.

Exterior

The vendor informs us that during the 2009 restoration, the chassis and body work received significant attention before being totally re-sprayed in the current grey and cream finish.

Windowed cargo doors were fitted along with similar rear cargo hatch to add a little more light into the interior.

Unusually for a commercial model, this van appears to have been fitted with the desirable hinged “safari” front windows possibly from the factory & were certainly in place prior to restoration.

US spec chrome bumpers belt line & badging were also added after painting to achieve the right look with alloy wheels from Flat 4 finishing things off nicely.

Chrome & paintwork are in an exceptional condition wherever you care to look.

Mechanics

  • 2.1l Porsche 912 type air cooled engine
  • Independent rear suspension
  • Electric mains hook up
  • Tow bar & electrics
  • On board leisure battery & inverter
  • Twin Carbs
  • Engine Temperature Gauges
  • Full flow oil cooler set up
Said by the vendor to drive well with its larger engine offering an increased level of performance. It certainly started up first time, sounding mechanically quiet but with that very familiar VW flat four soundtrack as he moved it around for the photoshoot.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
