The Appeal
Chrysler’s Elwood Engel had a massive canvas to work with when he created the full-size ‘66 300. While keeping things remarkably restrained, he managed to build in an array of neat features like a finned tail, recessed grille and rear arch guards that make these big land yachts amongst the best looking of their time.
His work is on fine display with this silver metallic car. For a car of this era and size, it is in good shape and is said to be very original. The mammoth blue interior is particularly smart. There are a few points to note in the photos, but nothing that overly detracts, and the vendor tells us that the car has apparently never been welded. It lived its life in California before arriving in the UK in 2018, so that seems possible.
The vendor is the third UK keeper and acquired the car in 2020. Since then, he tells us that he has only covered 1,500 miles. Recent work has included servicing, new starter and battery, a replacement timing cover oil seal and a transmission pan sump. The fuel lift pump has also been replaced. We’re told that the car starts and runs well.
This 300 Series is offered as a largely original, structurally sound example that would reward continued sympathetic stewardship.
