The Appeal
The Series IIA is widely regarded as the definitive classic Land Rover: rugged, honest and highly capable. The short-wheelbase 88-inch variant, with its compact dimensions and go-anywhere ability, remains one of the most cherished iterations of the breed and continues to attract a devoted following among enthusiasts and collectors alike.
This 1966 example has benefited from a sympathetic restoration under its current keeper's stewardship, encompassing extensive work to the body, engine, brakes and hydraulic systems. The vendor informs us that the vehicle presents in very good overall restored condition, with new upholstery fitted and all switchgear in working order. The vendor reports that it drives beautifully for a 60-year-old Land Rover, and as they put it, it has undeniable charm.
In January 2024, the vehicle also underwent a comprehensive service and inspection by LPME Motor Engineering. This included the replacement of the thermostat, front shock absorber bushes, track rod ends, rear differential pinion seal, exhaust, swivel housing, and the engine and gearbox mounts. In addition, the cylinder head was converted to run on unleaded fuel, and the soft-top roof was replaced with a hard-top truck cab.
