The Appeal

Reviving a name that dated all the way back to 1929, the 'new' MG Midget intended to continue its legacy of lightweight, perky and affordable sports cars. The resulting cars went under a steady programme of refinement, particularly during the '60s. By 1966, the car was treated to the much-celebrated 1,275cc A-Series hardware, something it shared with BMC's golden boy, the Mini Cooper S.

That's inspired the modern-day enthusiast to do much the same for the cars not to be lucky enough back in the day. The A-Series is plentiful, as is the Midget, and it's a arguably one of the simpler engine conversions out there. This handsome example, presented in Tartan Red, was given the 1,275cc during a professional restoration in 2018.

The full restoration has been kept in a photographic record, documenting work done on the engine, gearbox and back axle - not to mention a full retrim job. The result is a remarkable looker that's only been brought out occasionally in dry conditions, with no signs of corrosion or significant wear to note. This gleaming appearance is only accented further with new black wire wheels, a stainless steel luggage rack, and new spotlights.
