1966 Porsche 912/6 ‘Outlaw’

Highlights

  • Converted to LWB specification and equipped with various 911 RS, R and S style appointments
  • Powered by a six-cylinder, 2.4-litre NA 911 boxer engine with MSD ignition
  • Painted in the attractive and much loved Porsche Olive (414)
  • Black Fuchs alloys, reportedly wearing new tyres

The Appeal

The practice of air-cooled Porsche customisation is certainly in vogue at the moment, with the likes of Singer and Magnus Walker building bespoke 911s, cherry picking their favourite elements from the Porsche back catalogue as well as acting their own individual flourishes. In the same spirit as these highly prized creations, this 1966 912 has been given a 911 powertrain, as well as RS rear wings,  911 R style tail lights and an ST / R style front end. This series of modifications began all the way back in 1973, after the owner drove a contemporary 911 and enjoyed the way it handled.
This very individual creation may not be one for the purists, but it’s certainly one very cool Porsche that promises to be as good to drive as it is to look at. Presented in very good overall condition and in a very attractive colour scheme, this ‘912/6’ - as it has been dubbed -  is ready to meet its next custodian.

The History and Paperwork

  • Swedish registration plates
  • Offered with a valid Swedish technical inspection
  • Converted from SWB to LWB in 1973
  • Extensively upgraded over the years
  • Reportedly ready to be used and enjoyed

The Interior

  • Presented in very good condition
  • Five-dial dashboard
  • Black upholstery
  • Attractive veneered dashboard
  • OMP sports wheel
  • Equipped with a half roll cage
We enjoy how this interior remains simple and understated in true Porsche fashion. There’s everything you need and very little that you don’t.
The seats look to have been restored or replaced quite recently as they are in very good condition. There’s very little wear and certainly no damage that we can see. All the carpeting looks smart and there’s no excessive wear that we can see. The dashboard does not appear to suffer from UV damage and the veneers look in really fine order.
In front of the driver we find a small sports steering wheel and five VDO instruments. Thee and all the switchgear seem in good order and the vendor does not report any faults. There’s a half roll cage in the rear and the black headlining presents well. Up front, we find that the luggage compartment is dominated by the addition of a central fuel filler, although there’s still ample storage capacity.

The Exterior

  • Very smart Olive (414) paintwork
  • Various vinyls add a motorsport theme
  • Well presented chrome trim
  • RS rear wings
  • 911 R style tail lights
  • ST / R style front end
  • Glass fibre front hatch
  • Ventilated rear windows
  • Underbody previously corrosion protected
Finished in the distinctive shade of Porsche Olive (414), this Porsche looks epic, especially with its various vinyls. The use of RS rear wings,  911 R style tail lights and an ST / R style front end really suit it and the car looks ready to hit the racetrack. We can just imagine it flying down the Mulsanne straight and we’re sure its looks will turn heads wherever it goes.
The aforementioned Olive paintwork looks to have been applied to a very high standard and the bodywork looks to be really straight in spite of the various modifications. The underside looks good overall and has reportedly been protected over the years by a corrosion preventative coating. We did notice that some patches have been added to the front crossmember, so the next owner may wish to assess its structural integrity. The vendor assures us that the car has a current technical inspection with no issues, which is good to know.
It sits upon gorgeous black Fuchs alloys, shod with Kumho tyres which are apparently brand new.

The Mechanics

  • 2.4-litre NA flat-six
  • Engine number: 6123474
  • Manual gearbox
  • MSD electronic ignition system
  • DANSK exhaust system
With a 911 powertrain, you can expect impressive performance from this Porsche and the vendor informs us that it drives very well. The 2.4-litre flat-six apparently sounds magnificent through its DANSK exhaust and runs really well with the help of MSD electronic ignition.
We’re not informed of any mechanical issues it presents really well under the rear decklid.

Summary

If you’re looking for a classic Porsche that’s really driveable, this could well be the one you’ve been looking for. If you delight in upsetting the purists, it’s certainly the car for you and we must admit that we heartily approve of the various modifications.
With a healthy and athletic engine, fabulous styling and a great interior, this 912/6 certainly isn’t one to miss.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
