The Appeal
Some classics are destined for a life of static display or local shows, but that’s not what this pretty 1966 Spitfire Mk2 is all about. The Spitfire was many enthusiasts’ introduction to open-top motoring, and this one has been used extensively for European, Scandinavian and UK tours since the vendor bought it over 30 years ago.
The car is only for sale due to a lack of use over the last two years. It has clearly been cherished and also treated to regular ongoing maintenance and servicing. Highlights include a chassis renovation prior to purchase and a more recent repaint in Brooklands Green. The car presents well, with a tidy tan interior. There is scope to improve, but this is a car to use and enjoy rather than merely polish. We’re told that the unleaded 1.1L Standard engine runs and drives well.
The vendor says:
“It's a really great little car and deserves to be seen out on the roads more than I use it; I love it, but I don't want it to just sit in my garage. Hugs the road, sounds brilliant, and the different tops mean it can be driven for most of the year. It really appreciates being 'driven'. I've loved taking it around, and it's brilliant fun; I drove it to Southern Germany and then up to Bergen back in 2000, which was a real experience. It's also lovely for picnics and short trips. Engine and bonnet configuration make easy access - you can sit on the wheels to service it! Triumph Owners Club has been a good source of advice and support. 60 years old this year!”
