The Appeal
Talking about the Cortina can be an imposing proposition; it's a truly essential British classic. This was a car built specifically to broaden the British market by ticking all of the boxes. An inexpensive, capable and versatile car, built for mass production and perfect for the day-to-day motorist. The two-door Super Automatic is what we're looking at today - offering the convenience of a self-shifting gearbox in a package that was, and remains, enormously charming. This 1967-registered example is believed to be one of the very last Mk1 Cortinas produced, given that production ceased in October 1966, lending it additional historical interest.
Finished in Ermine White and retaining its original 1,500cc pre-crossflow engine, this Cortina is largely as it left the factory, with the exception of an external-only respray and recently fitted carpets. The interior is otherwise standard, and the car wears its years with an honest patina that speaks to a life well-lived rather than over-restored. The current owner has invested in a thorough programme of mechanical work since acquiring the car in 2024, including a full brake overhaul, new front suspension top mounts, new steering bushes, and electronic ignition. The underside has been cleaned and treated with Lanoguard for preservation.
With a collection of documents and bills charting its care over the years, this late-production Mk1 Cortina represents a fine opportunity for enthusiasts of Ford's iconic saloon.IMG_0278 Nigel Fidler.jpeg4.3 MB
